Student ID Platform
The Student ID Platform adopts the international standard mdoc, enabling users to selectively and securely present only the information they wish to disclose—such as “age only,” “university name and faculty,” or “proof of being a university student”—on their smartphones, regardless of whether the interaction takes place on campus or off campus, in person or online.
This platform is planned to be operated under unified rules using the domestic common profile defined by the National Institute of Informatics (NII) for its data items.
mdoc is an international standard for digital identity, with social implementation progressing primarily through its use as a mobile driver’s license (mDL).
This standard, developed for the purpose of storing driver's licenses on smartphones, has been internationalized as ISO/IEC 18013-5 and is currently being adopted primarily in North America, Australia, and Europe.
The standard has been announced as the method to be used when implementing My Number Card functionality on smartphones including Android and iPhone in Japan.
mdoc offers various features that address the limitations of physical IDs and password-based authentication, enabling a single credential to be used for both in-person and online use cases.
FeliCa Networks provides software development kits (SDKs) to partner companies.
This approach preserves environments optimized for each university while improving interoperability between universities and reducing the effort required to integrate with various on-campus and off-campus services, supporting a safer and more open learning environment and student life.
